The Project

The eIDAS bridge project is an initiative by the European Commission (EC) within the ISA2 program where Validated ID participated as an expert in PKI and SSI. The EC developed the eIDAS bridge to promote eIDAS as a trust framework for the SSI ecosystem.

This project provides a solution to SSI's most urgent challenge: having a trust framework to rely on. The result of this project, i.e., the technical specifications, integration guidelines, and legal reports produced, can be found here.

As pioneers and defenders of the SSI paradigm, Validated ID is one of the first ones who aimed to create the necessary trust environment to make verifiable credentials with a Level of Assurance & Credibility that allows public and private organizations to start accepting them as well-supported elements by the models of trust already covered by the eIDAS(v1) while new eIDASv2 gets formally approved.

Benefits:

  • Seals verifiable credentials using qualified certificates
  • Makes existing SSI technology scalable and interoperable
  • “bridges” the world of certificates with SSI credentials
  • Offers more security for end users
  • EnhanceS the legal certainty of any class of verifiable credential
  • Offers better ways to authenticate citizens
  • Improves public services
