Early Adopters Program

Key Project Drivers

Validated ID, AOC (Government of Catalonia), European Commission (EC), European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI), W3C, Decentralized Identity Foundation (DIF)

The Project

Early Adopters program, with AOC (Government of Catalonia) and Validated ID as an expert in SSI and EBSI. In this project, users can generate Verifiable Credentials of their identity from an existing official digital ID such as a national ID card, qualified certificate, etc.

With this VC, users can authenticate to the data hub of the AOV (MyGov). Once logged in, they can obtain proof of information regarding their identity as a VC from the municipal census. The user can save this credential to their wallet to later use it in another transaction (for example, to apply a discount as a social voucher in the water bill).

During the EBSI Demo Day, AOC, in collaboration with Howest University and Validated ID, a use case was presented where a student obtains specific discounts on municipal public services using their digital identity based on their university student card. The use case demonstrates the potential of this new identity paradigm in cross-border environments.

Benefits:

  • Promotes initiatives for the decentralization of identity
  • Supports relevant players within the sector of SSI
  • Accelerates the creation of cross-border services for public administrations and their ecosystems
  • Develops new regulations around eIDAS 2
  • It makes it easier for citizens to manage their personal information safely and privately
  • Improves EBSI's services
